N is for Navy Galaxy

Regular readers - Was there any other N I could choose given my theme of Addicted to Beads?

For my lovely A to Z visitors - Trollbeads (a beadmaker brand) from time to time will release certain beads that are made in small numbers and appear for collectors to buy without announcement.  So not an official limited edition release, just a style that some of their beadmakers have made that are available for a while.

Some of these become very sought after and super coveted and can change hands for silly money, way above the RRP.

When this style appeared, and there is no official name, but collectors termed these Navy Galaxies in the beginning, I was smitten!!

I spent 18 months collecting these up and I'm pleased to say that I didn't spend silly money - apparently patience is a virtue after all!

What have you waited patiently for that was worth the wait?

  1. Those are pretty - I like the big one with the diagonal stripe the best - such a lovely blue. I hate having to wait patiently for DVD releases after seeing a movie in the cinema, but it is always nice when my pre-order drops onto the mat, especially when I have managed to forget it's coming :)

    1. This was a labour of love, I was obsessed with the bracelet idea I had for these beads and was determined to get enough, luckily there was a 2nd wave of them as they were very hard to find on the initial "release" that wasn't a release!

  2. I can see why you're smitten. I am as well. Those are gorgeous, mysterious and soulful beads. Thanks for sharing about them. I have a lovely bead store in my neighborhood called Bead in Hand. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Ah, someone who loves the galaxies as much as I do! I have an identical row sitting in my bead box, plus one extra funky one with an opaque blue core and no clear overlay. It took me two years to collect all of them, but I got all of mine at RRP too. And I still have to very sternly tell myself that 10 (or 11) is more than enough and stop myself from instinctively grabbing every one I see! ;-)

    1. Me too, I was also apologising a lot for jumping on them when I did find them, I felt like I was hogging them! I accidently bought 2 more than I needed for the project but they worked very nicely on my bangle :D

I could probably squeeze a few more in but I don't have the cash at the moment, but when I was buying these and didn't I just had to go "sod it" and grab them when they were available.

    1. It's been the one true obsession I've had with a unique style, I seriously love the pattern!!

I was so glad when after a year or so they became a little bit more available if you knew where to look and the people who just jump on new things 'cos they're new or want to flip a bead for profit weren't as interested 'cos they were old news... very glad indeed!

If you want more I'm happy to look out for you, haven't seen one in a while though but I've not been scouring the internet for them as I have enough (well not really but I keep trying to tell myself this) and a bit cash strapped at mo!

    1. When these beads were released, for some reason it sparked off the memory of the first Men In Black film when they discovered that the galaxy was on Orion's Belt (as in the cat's collar).

I love beads that look like these, I have a few artisan (not made by the bigger brands) beads that have beautiful galaxy/night sky detailing on.

In fact my very first one of these beads was used in a Sky at Night themed bangle.

  8. Those Trollbeads colours are just stunning! I'm still being patient for a Big Shot (crafting machine) I can't warrant it as my old one still works, it just won't give up the ghost LOL! x

    1. Ooh cool I've just looked this up!

There is a jewellery equivalent I would love to have but in no way I can justify right now, it's a bead core lining machine, makes inserting and shaping your own 1 piece bead cores a doddle!! But it's a lot of money - but less money than a bead kiln which I would also like one day!

I'm not trying to get a torch and oxygen concentrator at home as I enjoying renting a bench in my local workshop and don't have to worry about having the space... sadly space is not an argument I can use against the kiln or the bead core lining machine as they are both quite small!! Not that you need a lot of space for the torch etc but there's a lot more health and safety considerations with those pieces of kit!

Hope your patience pays off, it looks like a great piece of kit for you!! Jewellery workshops have the big metal mamma of it, used to impress patterns into metal - if you search ring making on the blog there's a few pictures! (If it doesn't come up I think I blogged it in May 2014.

  9. I had to wait patiently to find my own galaxy beads! I didn't have a project for them when they first came out, but was happy to snag two in the second wave :) Well, I wasn't so patient for the second one :D

I've been waiting pretty patiently for the beads for my bird feeder, camping, and zombie bracelets. But that's a bit easier since I don't have specific beads in mind, it's more a feeling about whether the beads are right or not.

I waited patiently for the last metal link for my X bracelet. That took me about 8 months I think. That last rubber link did feel like it was taunting me a bit.

    1. Lol at the rubber link!

I know what you mean about waiting for beads that you don't have a specific one in mind, but you'll know when you see it.

I thought I had a specific set of beads for my Winter Beach bracelet initially... but I couldn't figure out why it wasn't "clicking" - then I had the ephiany that I was trying to capture my feelings on that walk and less the exact details of the day, once I let go and stopped being too literal my bracelet came together.

The "actually no bead budget" situation I find myself in at the moment is interesting in the way that I'm looking at new releases that I can't have but want, it's definitely helping me evaluate what's important in my bead buying, I think of all the things I currently want, the priority is going to be the copper bangle and stoppers from Trollbeads.

      We shall see!
