O is for Oxygen Concentrator

Mine is called Glow and was adopted by me in August last year!

I need to use Oxygen for my torch and this is the safest (and cheapest) way for me to do so, rather than using an oxygen tank.

Glow is a 5L refurbished medical oxygen concentrator that uses air and coverts it into oxygen to feed into my torch.  He makes a noise when he's working, so he's not a quiet bead making companion by any stretch of the imagination but it's a noise you get used to!

He has a pressure guage so I can check that he's breathing properly, and much like getting a torch it was all a bit overwhelming to start with, but now he's my trusty beadmaking buddy.

When I brought him home I even strapped him into the seatbelt of my car to make sure he didn't get hurt on the journey home... any sane person would have just have had him delivered rather than chauffer him door to door, but who wants to be sane?

Do you have a non-human trusty companion whilst you work?

  1. I never even knew these things existed, so I have learnt something today :)

My only regular non-human companion for my work is my computer (I have a Microsoft Surface for when I am a wandering writer and a desktop for when I'm in my study). I *love* my Surface, it is sturdy and reliable (I have dropped it at least a dozen times and it has survived with no more than a few scratches). It does now have a rather garish pink keyboard cover, because the other sleek black keyboard cover I've had since I got it nearly three years ago finally broke, but the bright pink means I'm not gonna lose it easily! ;P

I have just been given a surface for work, love it!! Seriously considering getting one for myself.

  2. Glow is a neat tool/beadmaking buddy :)

I can't say that I have a non-human companion for my beadmaking or other work. I guess I would have to choose my BlackBerry, since it's a nice distraction from my regular work and handy for taking pictures of my beads.

    1. It was interesting hearing the artists demo at Flame Off as several use an OxyCon at home, and at Flame Off everyone was on Oxygen gas, which gives a hotter flame.

I had my first lesson on gas, and part of my second on gas, it's definitely a luxury... but both times I didn't have as much access so it wasn't such a weird leap.

Definitely not having Oxygen at home though!!

  3. That is a new machine on me - sounds like he would be noisy given what he does. My trustiest companion is my Wacom screen, which is also a tablet - I use it for all my covers and it is a fantastic screen for the PC too - colours are lovely.

I love saying hi to people who've read my blog, or are just passing through via the A to Z, or anyone not a spam bot!

P.s. If you use an iPad/iPhone and are having trouble leaving a comment on Blogger, you might have better luck using a browser that's not the default iPad one... Then from the "Comment as" drop down menu choose Name/Url (you can leave URL field blank or add your web address) or Anonymous and (hopefully) away you go! Mars xx
