B is for Beads, Business Cards and a Bead Tester Group

So what do I make? Well beads mostly!

These were 4 beads I've chosen to put on my Business Cards... I'm still waiting for the cards to be delivered, so I can't show you them yet, but I can tell you it was really hard to decide which 4 beads to pick!  I eventually settled on these as they are all different, but hopefully a good representation of what I like to make.

In fact, I'll let you into a little secret about the business cards - I actually have 2 different versions coming... I've been putting off getting business cards for a reason (but I can't tell you that until later in the alphabet or it will spoil the surprise) and I'd love to tell you that there are 2 versions due to some really clever marketing plan that I have...

...but in reality it's because I did the design and ordered them, and then stupidly asked for opinions from my lovely bead tester group after placing the order... between them and my family I changed the design and then had to order the final version, d'oh!  Lesson learnt.

What have you done without thinking it through and then have had to do again?

  1. I'm always rushing head long and then having to change things, but luckily it's almost always changeable without any cost. I love the fact that you're going to make the most of your change though. #AtoZChallenge http://mscalling.blogspot.com

    1. Yes, unfortunately it all came with a financial cost, but at least I only ordered small numbers... but must learn to think first!

    1. Thanks, bead no.1 should make another appearance in E I think, if I stick to my ideas and dont change them before I get there!

      Good luck with the challenge!

  3. Those are beautiful beads. Sometimes I hit post without thinking it through properly first - I have had to hurry to correct things on the odd occasion :).

    1. Thanks, they are some of my favourites, although I do have a lot of favourites!

I do that with posts too, my spelling and grammar is really not very good at times... okay a lot of the time, it seems to get worse as I get older.

  4. It's nice to see you doing A-Z again (brave, brave woman!). Your beads are amazing. Sometimes I end up buying stuff (for example a camera) without extensive examination of all the options. I barge forward because there are too many choices, I get tired of wading through the details and just pick something.

    1. Thanks, the A to Z brings me lovely blogs like yours! I like what you're doing with beads and clay at the moment, I do pop by but I'm a bit rubbish at commenting.

I do that with phones, drives my other half nuts as he likes to research carefully!

  5. Hi Mars, I had some business cards designed some years ago, emailed the artworkto the printer without asking for a sample. What looked lovely on the screen was luridly vile colours when printed! Luckily not too expensive to put right. :-)

    1. I'm definitely on a sharp learning curve with this stuff, when I had to get some cards as a Blogger it was a lot easier as I didn't need pics, with beads it helps to show what it is you make lol!

      Still it's all a learning experience :)

  6. I'm often the opposite - I think things through too much, and then miss out on an opportunity!

Clothes I still tend to buy and then have to rebuy because what I've bought doesn't really work for the situations that I need them to.

Looking forward to seeing your cards (and what you have for C!)

    1. Yes I think we might have similar C's ;) Ironically the cards were on an opportunity as I had a chance to get a good discount, but not so good a discount if you have to buy twice, or maybe three times in my case...

I'd been putting it off for a long time whilst other things needed deciding and I think I thought just do "something" rather than nothing... but again it's all good experience.

  7. I love the 3rd one along - looks like a tiny universe with galaxies floating through it.

I'm an obsessive planner, so I have the opposite problem to flurrying things out and then realising they're not finished, I sometimes never get things out because I have planning overload - sometimes I do have ot give myself a kick and say 'just do it!'

    1. I love that bead, I really like that effect and sometimes just darker beads...

I was very much like that before I started selling, I drove my family and friends nuts looking at all the what ifs, and trying to make a firm decision whether to sell any of what I make. It was almost a relief when I started that I'd made a "decision" to do "something".

  9. I've screwed up many a document on the computer and found myself retyping and reworking things. Computers can be evil, and yes, it was totally not my fault. ;)

I like your beads. Very pretty.

    1. Thanks Tamara, I find computers suck time too, especially when you have an important deadline and things go wrong!

  10. I'm sure both versions will look marvelous! :)
I am doing a lot of bead-research this month - I am trying to re-create a 7th century necklace from the excavation pictures. Are your business cards for bead consulting by any chance? :D

    1. Woah, sounds awesome! But way above my skill set :) I aim to make non-wonky beads that might look nice, funky or unusual on a bracelet or necklace... I "play" with the torch rather than study with the torch at the moment.

I admire the research angle though, but for once in my life I'm doing this more from a "doing" aspect, although I think you could probably argue that all the blogging I've done is "research" - just that it doesn't reach past 1976 ;)

I love saying hi to people who've read my blog, or are just passing through via the A to Z, or anyone not a spam bot!

P.s. If you use an iPad/iPhone and are having trouble leaving a comment on Blogger, you might have better luck using a browser that's not the default iPad one... Then from the "Comment as" drop down menu choose Name/Url (you can leave URL field blank or add your web address) or Anonymous and (hopefully) away you go! Mars xx
