Z is for Z for Zachariah

Z for Zachariah is a post-apocalyptic novel published in 1974.  Taking the theme of being in that situation...

but not literally for the sake of being able to ask the following question; which would be dumb if you were taking being in a post-apocalyptic situation seriously...

... I was asked several weeks ago "Out of all your Trollbeads, if you had time to grab one bracelet, which one would it be and why?"

The parameters were that it could be any bracelet that I had currently made up, previously made up, or were indeed yet to make (with beads I have currently).

I looked down at my wrist, and really the answer was in front of me.  Fearing that it was too easy a choice, after all it was the only bracelet I could see as we were out and about at the time... I've been mulling the question over ever since.

As today is the last day of the A to Z challenge I thought I'd finally share my answer with you.  It's still the one I had on my wrist that day...

This is a bracelet that is made up wholly of production* beads; the glass and stone are all Trollbeads and the silvers are a mix of Trollbeads and Redbalifrog.

*You could argue that any stone is individual in itself and some were Limited Edition but all are from what we call the main collection releases.

My Winter Beach Bracelet

I chose this bracelet over all others and the reasons for my choice are quite involved, so the sake of brevity, for the last A to Z post, I shall simply say that this bracelet holds a lot of personal meaning to me.

But yes, that is the one I would grab.

If I were to ask you the same question about your jewellery, with the same parameters and assumptions (you can of course ignore the Trollbeads part so everyone can take part), what would it be and why?

  1. Hi Mars,

That is a lovely bracelet you would grab! The seahorse is just so cute. I have a thing for seahorses. I have no idea what I would try to grab, but now you have made me think about it. I suspect it would be an old gold chain my great aunt and mother used to wear. Sometimes I wonder if we own our stuff, or if it owns us instead. Of course this doesn't go for beads.

Congratulations on a job well done, you survived the month in brilliant style! I look forward to keeping up with your blog.

    1. Thanks so much Liz, had popped over to yours to say much the same! Was so stoked to have found your blog during the challenge, you're on permanent follow :)

The seahorse is by Redbalifrog, I blogged about it and 2 of the other silvers here...

They really are lovely beads, I've another on the way, bought second hand that I'll be featuring once I've had some Zzzz's and blogged Hull Fashion Week too.

  2. Hi Mars, Congratulations on completing the A-Z challenge!!! I have enjoyed reading all your posts, and your photos. Hope you do something to celebrate...maybe treat yourself to a special bead?? :)
Your bracelet is lovely. RBF Nautilus is one of my absolute favorites. I'm hoping she does that one in bronze in the future. And Labs...you can never go wrong with labs. You have me thinking now, too. It would be hard to choose just one bracelet.
    All the best!

    1. Thanks Brigitt! I really appreciate you taking the time out to comment :)

I love the new RBF brass ones, the Aladdin's Lamp arrived yesterday and it's just gorgeous! I really hope Amanda carries on with more brass charms, I don't do gold so much (and not just because of the price, it's a bit too yellow for me generally) but I love bronze and brass.

Yep it was easy, but then I wanted to really spend time thinking about it which I have been doing ever since, but my decision didn't change, I just explored the reasons why. I've been keeping posts as short as my rambling style allows for the A to Z but I may come back to this as a topic in the future and try to capture *all* the reasons why I chose this bracelet.

  3. If I had enough time to build a bracelet, I would grab all the beads that I had been given as gifts, plus a few extras like the German clover (you'd need good luck in a post-apocalyptic situation!). I think I could squeeze all of that onto one bracelet. And I could always cheat and use one of my leathers, since that sort of quadruples the available space ;D

    1. Good choices! You would have the time to build the bracelet as how the question was posed to me was that you can make up a new one from any of the beads you currently have, no time limits you're allowed to think about it!

      Canny on the leathers!

  4. That is a beautiful bracelet. I love the beads. If I could only grab one piece of jewelry, it'd be my wedding ring, which I didn't make and doesn't fit anymore. Part of it would be because I figure I could always find more beads later (yes even during a zombie apocalypse!) and make more handmade jewelry.

    1. Thanks Patricia! Had an interesting conversation at the weekend about making jewellery from all sorts of material... might have to revisit that conversation if we're going to prepare for an apocalypse!

    1. Thanks Courtney, they are made from Labradorite, one of my favourite stones. I have another one of these, a ring, some pendants, a labradorite bracelet... and if I'd had more money at the time I would have picked up a hand sized piece that had been hand carved into a skull... did I mention I really like labradorite? ;)

I love saying hi to people who've read my blog, or are just passing through via the A to Z, or anyone not a spam bot!

P.s. If you use an iPad/iPhone and are having trouble leaving a comment on Blogger, you might have better luck using a browser that's not the default iPad one... Then from the "Comment as" drop down menu choose Name/Url (you can leave URL field blank or add your web address) or Anonymous and (hopefully) away you go! Mars xx
