Sticking to my Budget?! 16 days to go!!

Well, this is a surprise post!

I started 2016 with good, nay, great intentions of really cutting down on how much I spend on beads, and then promptly managed to spend January, February and March's (strict) allocations all before the end of January!

In my defence, (there's always a defence), February's allocation was for OHM's Love Cage and if I hadn't have preordered in January I don't think I would have got one...  March's allocation also has a defence too (see earlier bracketed comment) which was spent on a preloved Amethyst and an old letter style bead both from Trollbeads.  Sometimes with beads you are looking for you really do need to grab them when you see them if they are at a good price preloved.

Oops I almost forgot that February also included some of the new oxidised stoppers from Trollbeads too... I actually have no excuse for that one as I could have picked those up anytime!!

I am exactly halfway through March and provided I don't spend anything for the next 16 days, I will be on target with a strict budget for the first quarter of the year... if I achieve this - it really will be a first!

  2. Good for you Mars sticking to the budget! I don't have an exact budget but I do try to restrain myself on bead buying. I bought a lot more than usual for me in fall and winter due to all the promotions, but haven't bought as much since. It's helped that there seems to be less beads I want right now, but I know that won't last long ;-)

    1. I thought I'd well and truly blown it by spending 3 months worth in 1, and I didn't really expect to stick to it... I've been maintaining a "spend less" budget for a few years now. Which I seem to achieve but I've never really managed anything that could be called strict ;)

Almost getting to the 3 month mark and having not spent any more is a genuine surprise! It would be nice to do even if it's only for the first 3 months, I think I'd started to muse about it in Collections pass me by last month. I've defintiely been holding off on a lot of my usual ooh shiny approach to buying.

Last year I managed to achieve some of my bigger wish list stuff so I think I've become a bit more relaxed at the moment!

Let's see if we can both keep this up :)

  3. I see nothing wrong if you still managed to keep your quarterly goal - sometimes you just can't pass on the things that come up!

I was hoping to make it through March without buying anything since the end of January was not good with Love Cage and some TB clearouts. But, then I found Lucky Moves, so that plan was scrapped! I was hoping that I could make it through April instead, but that cheeky gnome for the Great Lakes event at the beginning of April looks enticing! Sigh. Maybe May? :D

Good luck with the next 15 days!

    1. Thanks Tracy, still managing so far ;)

I think Love Cage was popular with everyone, I know quite a few of my friends indulged after seeing it and they were not all regular OHM buyers (or they weren't, I'm sure that might change).

Glad you were able to get Lucky Moves, I won't be getting Moon Me but I do love the design, made me chuckle when I saw it so look forward to all the photo opportunities that will come along with that particular bead!

My budget continues to be tight beyond March so we'll see how it goes, but if this is the year I could break the excessive parts of my spending I'd be well happy... I'm beginning to wonder if there is a certain "mass" one reaches with a bead collection that leads to a natural slowing down??
