About

The Blog

If you are attracted to shiny things that you can wear then you are most definitely in the right place... charms, bracelets, bangles, necklaces in silver, glass, bronze, leather & stones - oh my!

Curling Stones for Lego People is my personal Jewellery Blog.  Whilst my main obsession is Trollbeads, I also blog about what I'm currently interested in or wearing.  In 2016 I also started blogging about my own bead making adventures.

Brands I tend to wear and talk about here are Trollbeads, Ohm Beads, Elfbeads, Redbalifrog, X Jewellery (formerly X by Trollbeads), Thomas Sabo Karma, Rebeligion, Story by Kranz and Ziegler, Bali Clicks and Pandora (mostly their rings).  I love artisan jewellery too so you will find other artists and not just the brand designers here including Born of Fire (the name I make beads under).

Curling Stones has grown from sharing photos and info with friends to sharing them with readers from all around the world.  Feel free to stop off on your travels through Curling Stones and say hi in the comments, I love chatting with you all!

Curling Stones is a non-profit blog, meaning that there are no adverts, and that I write for love, not for money.  I did once joke that I'd write for tea & beads, so if on a rare occasion I do get product support, then that will be explicitly stated and you'll get my honest opinion as usual!  I don't sell my own beads via my blog, and I'll show you ones that have gone wrong, as well as the ones I think are cool!

I still use my mobile phone to take the pics - I started Curling Stones because I wanted to see more "everyday" photos of people's actual jewellery and how they decided what to wear; I was frustrated with just finding stock images of jewellery.

What will I read on Curling Stones for Lego People?

Curling Stones for Lego People is a one woman perspective on what I like in jewellery and a few stories about what happened along the way... apart from when I have guest bloggers, then clearly you're getting their view and their stories, as I've yet to work out how to lock them in my (imaginary) basement until they write what I want them to...

You won't find the hot gossip (except once in a blue moon), nor extensive and full reviews on every new collection, nor thoroughly in depth reviews of a single product (erm, confession, if I've bought it you may find it turning up on here, perhaps much later than the original release day) - what I'm trying to say is that I blog to my own schedule about what I like, or buy, or make, or what I'm wearing currently, sometimes that is well timed and just happens to be on a Brand's release day, or it *is* the hot topic of the day, but as an avid bargain hunter, more often than not the post happens after the key moment, I do like collages so you may well find a few sprinkled throughout the blog!

I sometimes hang out with a lovely group of Bloggers who are from or living in or just like Yorkshire, so a couple of times a year you may see posts about this!

P.S. This is neither a blog about the sport of Curling, nor about the little plastic Lego people (other plastic toys are available) so sorry if you feel you've been brought here under false pretenses, why not stay anyway and have a browse of the shiny things:  you may just pick up a new hobby! ;)

How do I read and keep up to date with what you're posting, given that you're being a pain and not blogging to a set schedule?

In 2017, I've decided to post "only with intention" (see my January 2017 post about New Year's Bead and Blog Resolutions for the whys and wherefores) due to being busy in my non-blogging life... at the moment that will probably average once a month but who knows as I've thrown any schedules out the window!

Mars

Ooh that's me!  Hello!

I love learning about new things and collecting stories and experiences.  I like talking to random strangers so I'm a nightmare to sit next to on a train, unless I have my kindle with me in which case I might not even notice you exist!  Sorry if I've ignored you, but I do love a good read!

Hey you're still reading, wow...  apparently most people don't even scroll down on the screen much, especially not to the bottom when browsing the Internet these days so you must be one of those rare individuals who likes to read everything, see we have something in common already!

I'm naturally drawn to jewellery with semi-precious stones and skulls, I love science fiction and fantasy and I can be bribed with food under most circumstances.

I'm from the UK and I live on Earl Grey Tea (how quaint) with a daily helping of coffee.  I will work for tea and beads, but Curling Stones for Lego People is something I do for fun.

I don't wear make up, but be warned, I will take just as much time (if not longer) to get ready to go out because I'm usually designing a bracelet or necklace combination to wear, I've also started making my own glass beads, so I'm often found behind my torch in my spare time.

I'm married to a human being as well as my blog, and occasionally I do think about things other than beads and blogging (normally my bus).  Sometimes if I don't post much it's because I'm busy with life, but I hope there will be something new that's worth a read when I do.

I hope you enjoy reading Curling Stones for Lego People and please feel free to make suggestions of things you'd like to see here, I'm always learning and hoping to improve what I write about.

Mars xx

  2. Thanks for stopping by! Glad you enjoy the blog too :)

I probably should have written this months ago but signing up to the A to Z Challenge has made me tackle some of the blog's "To Do List" - now I just need to get cracking on that alphabet!

  3. This a fun "About Me" post! And I'm really glad you blog-hopped over to me, I did think however - "Ooh, Lego. Yay!" Lol. Still, I found something interesting and that's jewelry. I make jewelry from time to time, mainly silversmithing! I'll keep an eye out for your future posts.
I drink Yorkshire tea, not so quaint. :)

    1. Thank you! Yes I get a few lego searches on the blog which I'm sure only brings disappointment to lego fans!

Ooh silversmithing, how cool! I've tried lampworking which was fun, and the tea, I'll take Strong Yorkshire at builder's strength too when I need some fortification... but I'm an Earl Grey Girl at heart... another recent-ish discovery about myself :)

I could have written all of that about myself. :) It's wonderful to hear more about you and find common qualities with a fellow blogger on the other side of the world. All the best to you!

    1. That's wonderful! I've been reading your blog and am so excited to see where you go next, just this week we were looking at motorhomes... we love the idea of a campervan but think we are looking for a larger vehicle, not that we have anywhere to park it around here but never let the practical stuff get in the way of the larger picture!!

We think we need a bigger budget though as the one we feel in love with, although very old, was still about 3 times our ideal budget and 4 times our more practical budget!

  6. Hello,
I am not much of a jewellery fan, but I love bracelets!
I'll definitely be hanging around to check them out.
And your description about yourself makes me feel like we are kindred souls...so many things in common!
    Thank you for sharing!

    1. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate hearing from people!

Lol if you like bracelets you are certainly in the right place as this covers about 95% of my content, I do look at necklaces and occasionally rings and pendants too. I've just been to a ring making workshop so that will be coming up in the next week or two!

I don't really cover earrings as that's something I rarely buy despite having my ears pierced multiple times as I tend to wear the same things all the time and with long hair no-one gets to see them unless I tie my hair up!

      Enjoy your browse!

  7. Hey ... it will be an interesting blog to stop by ... I used to have a large collection of semi precious stones and beads ... but over time i have lost interest. I live in India and over here ... we are big on jewellery ( of all kinds)
Would love to hear your perspective.

    1. Thanks Jayanthi, I blog mostly about modular jewellery... whilst I've always loved wearing rings and pendants I always found bracelets quite tricky (I have very small wrists).

Once I discovered modular jewellery it became and still is a bit of an obsession... but as it's customisable I never get bored!

      Thanks for visiting

I love saying hi to people who've read my blog, or are just passing through via the A to Z, or anyone not a spam bot!

P.s. If you use an iPad/iPhone and are having trouble leaving a comment on Blogger, you might have better luck using a browser that's not the default iPad one... Then from the "Comment as" drop down menu choose Name/Url (you can leave URL field blank or add your web address) or Anonymous and (hopefully) away you go! Mars xx
